Yarn substitution - I knit this hat out of superwash merino yarn. You can absolutely substitute whatever yarn you choose, but be aware that choosing a different fiber may produce varying results from the samples shown.

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, dpns (optional)

Techniques: 2 color stranded colorwork, decreasing, knitting in the round, potentially magic loop OR dpns for crown shaping. Reading a chart is helpful but not required - all chart instructions are written out.

Notes:
Colorwork - In this pattern, MC refers to the color you choose for your background stitches. If you’d like a hat with light acorns, choose a light CC. If you’d like a hat with dark acorns, choose a dark CC.

Written colorwork instructions are included in this pattern as well as two versions of the colorwork charts. If you are using the written instructions, simply follow the advice above for choosing your colors and knit according to the pattern.

If you are using the charts, I’ve included two versions of charts: “Acorns Light” and “Acorns Dark.” The colorwork charts are named “Acorns Light” and “Acorns Dark” to indicate the color your acorn motif will be. If you are knitting based on the charts, choose the chart that corresponds with your contrast color. Use “Acorns Light” if you would like light acorns and “Acorns Dark” if you would like dark acorns.

Brim modifications - This hat includes a 2 in (5 cm) folded brim. You will knit 4 in (10 cm) of ribbing to achieve this. If you’d prefer a non-folded brim, simply knit half the rows suggested for the brim or the amount of rows to achieve your desired length based on your row gauge.
