I use medium weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook. The cupcake is about the size of a normal cupcake but you can alter the size by changing the yarn. Using two strands of yarn and a 5mm hook will double the size.

You will need 3 or 4 colours, one for the bottom (C1), one for the cupcake top and ears (C2), one for the icing (C3), and one for any decoration (C4) which could match the bottom or decoration on the bottom.

You will need to know (US terms) Magic Ring (MR), Chain, (CH), Fasten Off (FO), Single Crochet (SC), Slip Stitch (sl), Back Loop Only (BLO), Front Loop Only (FLO), Increase (INC), and Decrease (DEC). I prefer (and almost always use) the invisible decrease as it has a cleaner look, but the choice is yours. The number at the end of the rnd in is the number of stitches you’ll end up with.
