Dachsund Mug Cosy
I was inspired to design this mug cosy after falling in love with two Dachshunds called Archie and Lyra. I have always liked the look and functionality of mug cosies, they remind me of being snuggled up by the fire in the Winter, reading and drinking hot chocolate. I have made these cosies to fit a standard mug dimensions 26 cm circumference, 9cm height and 8cm diameter. You can easily adapt this pattern to increase the size by adding extra rows and stitches at the top and bottom, and start and end of a row. You can calculate how many extra rows or stitches by using your gauge swatch and seeing how many more stitches you need to heighten or widen your work.
I loved the idea of the Daschund being so long she winds around the whole mug. This can be knit all flat and seamed together at the top and bottom, or you can start in the round for the cuff then continue knitting flat back and forth for the colour work and finish in the round again. This pattern will be written knit flat.
I used Drops Nepal aran weight yarn on 3.5mm needles but any yarn that achieves gauge is fine. Stranded colourwork is more effective using real wool fibres rather than acrylic but both will work.
