These mittens were broadly inspired by a WWII-era cardigan-and-pullover set, originally published in the 1940s in the British crafting magazine Stitchcraft. The original twinset paired colorful stripes with a lovely stranded rose motif for a delicate, feminine effect. Scaled down significantly and rendered with only two colors at a time (instead of four, as in the original), the roses are just as sweet and reminiscent of a bygone era, but much easier to knit! They are small enough for a take-along project.
