Cosy Freedom

I was 6 years old when I took my first ballet steps and instantly fell in love with the feeling I experience when I dance: a strange mix of freedom, warmth and sociability. When I dance, I forget for a moment the world around me. Then I can just be in the moment.

Of all the styles I learnt, Martha Graham’s modern dance is closest to me. Graham shaped her emotions through movement and told powerful stories with her dance. My teacher Wiske could do the same like no other. Until well past the age of 25, I danced her stories on stage, mostly in group, but occasionally solo.

Even today I still dance and look for that blissful mix of freedom, warmth and cosiness. I tried to capture that feeling in the jumper Dancing Queen.
