This ear warmer builds on my Danish heritage, with heart and star color work motifs and double-knitting so the fine soft fabric is extra cozy.

Using a yarn that includes possum fur makes the accessory light and extra warm for its weight. Your choice to knit with possum fur helps protect endangered birds such as kiwi in New Zealand, that are harmed by the population explosions of this introduced predator.

The ear warmer is double-knit in the round with two colors so it is fully reversible. If you are an experienced knitter but have not done double knitting before, all the instructions are included, and this could be a good project for your first try. With just two contrasting balls of fingering yarn, you will have a colorful cozy accessory in no time! I also included links to resources that will help to add this skill to your knitting repertoire.

Sample knit with Zealana Performa KAURI Fingering (167 yd / 40 g skein), 1 ball each of color #K07 Dark Moana (gray-blue), and color # K02 Kea (yellow-green).

Alternate yarns choices include Zealana Performa Rimu Fingering (167 yd / 40 g skein), Merino Superwash Wool (60%) and Possum (40%), or any similar weight fingering yarn with added fibers such as alpaca and silk that will be soft on the ears.

Finished measurements are 4 ¼” wide by 18” circumference to fit 22” around ears.
