De Grau

De Grau is a sleeveless cardigan worked seamlessly in one piece with the bias shaping on the back providing a stunning visual impact. The neckband is folded to finish the vest with a structural and sleek shape. The pattern is written such that you can choose to work the stranded colourwork in the round with steeks, or worked flat with no steeks.

Stranded Colourwork Gauge

27 sts and 29 rows/rnds to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles & Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3.25mm (US 3) for the neckband: at minimum a 100cm/40” circular (larger sizes will need a longer needle); long circular for magic loop or DPNs for cuffs

Size B: 3.75mm (US 5) for the stranded colourwork: a 40cm/16”, 60cm/24”, 80cm/32” circular depending on garment size for the lower back body if working in the round; at minimum a 100cm/40” circular for the fronts/back yoke (larger sizes will need a longer needle)

Size C: 4mm (US 6) any length needle for 3-needle BO along side seams.

You will also need: desired number of approximately 14.5mm (9/16)” diameter buttons, spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts, spare size B needle to prepare for 3-needle BO along the body sides, stitch markers, removable markers, grosgrain ribbon for front hems if steeking (optional).

Techniques

  • Colourwork in the round with steeks OR colourwork flat with no steeks
  • Increasing in colourwork
  • 3-needle BO
  • I-cord edging
