This pattern was originally knitted as a baby blanket for my granddaughter Ariadne. I had no intention of publishing it but so many people asked if it could be that eventually I gave in and printed the chart as a limited edition A2 signed print. The cost of the print and postage made the pattern too expensive for some knitters who have asked if I would make it available as a download.

The design is complex, so takes concentration, and a certain amount of skill as it requires floats to be carried for long distances at a time. To make things easier I designed it to be knitted in the round and steeked. This means that you are always looking at the front of the chart when working and always using a knit stitch for the colourwork.

Although I originally knitted it in a 4ply equivalent yarn with 3.5mm needles there is no reason why it could not be knitted in any yarn weight, although you might want to consider using a wooly yarn as it is steeked.

Gauge has little relevance to this pattern as sizing is not an issue. However it is important that the ribbed and stocking stitch areas sit flat with each other. Therefore the gauge of the rib should match the gauge of the stockinette.

In Jaimesons Spindrift 4ply weight 2 ply yarn using 3.5mm needles knitted to a gauge of 32 stitches 36 rows to 4” the finished size is 26 x 40 inches. This size requires 8 25g balls of dark yarn and 7 25g balls of lighter yarn. I used various greens and blacks as well additional colours from my stash but it is a 2 colour pattern and can be knitted in just 2 colours. The colours that you choose to use should be your own and instead of greens you might like to replace this colour with blues or reds and oranges would also look great for instance.
