When my friend Lisa, the dyer behind Fibernymph Dye Works, asked me to design something featuring her Inversibles line that wasn’t socks, I immediately knew that I had to make a pair of fingerless mitts. Where better to show off the complementary stripes than on your hands?

These stylish mitts knit up quickly and use less than half of one Inversible set, giving you plenty of yarn to make a pair for you and one for a friend. The simple ribbed lace pattern is both written and charted. The two mitts are identical save for the placement of the thumb gusset, which is worked using tidy lifted increases for a cozy fit.

To knit this pattern, you need to know how to:

  • work in the round in both knit and purl,
  • work lifted increases (directions given in pattern),
  • work a lace pattern from a chart or written directions, and
  • work basic decreases (k2tog, ssk, CDD).
