The Deep Ocean is a sweater inspired by the yarn with which it is knitted. This color invited me to knit a dramatic design full of lace* that, as it’s name says, resembles the depths of the ocean that are dark, beautiful and unknown. This yarn’s colorway is called Deep Ocean, and gave the name to this sweater. I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I enjoyed designing it, and make it yours to give it a new life.

About the construction, the sweater is knitted from the bottom up in the round, then front and back are worked separately back and forth, making decreases to shape the neck, and working short rows to shape the back. Finally, stitches are picked-up to work the neckline and the sleeves, that are knitted in the round from top to bottom with progressive decreases to the cuff.

The central lace pattern is a variation of a Japanese lace pattern that can be found in Hitomi Shida’s 250 Japanese Knitting Stitches book.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4) 5, 6, 7 equivalent to 88 (97, 107, 114) 124, 130, 136 cm of bust circumference (finished measurements) with 10-20 cm of positive ease.

Gauge: 23 sts & 32 rows = 10 cm on larger needles. Measured over stockinette stitch after blocking.

Yarn: About 980 (1050, 1200, 1350, ) 1500, 1650, 1750 meters of fingering weight yarn and same quantity of mohair lace.
Sample version
300 g of Corralito yarn’s 100% merino superwash, fingering weight, in colorway Deep Ocean (400 mt per 100 g).
150 g of Corralito yarn’s silk mohair, lace weight, in colorway Deep Ocean (420 mt per 50g)

Needles: Recommended needles (to get gauge):
3.5 mm circular needles for the body, with a cable of 80 cm
3.0 mm circular needles for the hem, with a cable of 80 cm.
3.5 mm DPNs for the sleeves, or circular needle with a cable length appropiate for magic loop.
3.0 mm needles for the neckband, with a cable of 40 cm.
3.0 mm DPNs for the cuffs, or circular needle with a cable length appropiate for magic loop.

Notions: stitch markers, stitch holders (or scrap yarn), tapestry needle (to weave ends), block mats and pins. 3.5 mm crochet hook for the bobbles (crochet hook for the bobbles)

El sweater Deep Ocean es un diseño inspirado en la lana con la cual está tejido. Este color me invitó a tejer un diseño dramático, lleno de calados que, como su nombre lo dice, evoque las profundidades del océano que son tan oscuras como hermosas, e incuso desconocidas. El color de este hilado es “Deep ocean”, océano profundo en español, y me dio el nombre para este sweater. Espero que disfrutes mucho tejiéndolo, tanto como yo disfruté diseñándolo, y que lo hagas tuyo para darle una nueva vida.

Acerca de la construcción, el sweater está tejido de abajo para arriba en redondo, el delantero y la espalda luego son trabajados por separado y en plano, haciendo disminuciones para dar forma al cuello, y trabajando vueltas cortas para dar forma a la espalda. Finalmente, se levantan puntos para tejer el elástico del cuello y las mangas, las cuales están tejidas en redondo y de arriba para abajo, con disminuciones progresivas hasta el puño.
