I am a big fan of nature documentaries, and especially enjoy ones that deal with the secrets of the deep – Jacques Cousteau’s expeditions and his love for the ocean have always fascinated me.

And when Yarn Carnival created a beautiful color, ‘Jacques Cousteau’ (now unfortunately sold out), in his honor, so I just had to create something fun with it:
Deep Sea features big wave action with lots of deep drops – of stitches, that is!

Deep Sea can either be a shawl with a fluttery jellyfish-y border (the non-stinging kind!), or a shrug that will crest around your shoulders – either style only uses only one skein of Yarn Carnival’s Fire Dancer Yarn and is sure to make waves wherever you wear it!

Yarn requirements:
- 1 skein of Yarn Carnival Fire Dancer (150g = 822 yds) or about 750-800 yds of light fingering yarn; color shown is ‘Jacques Cousteau’.

Suggested needle size:
Size 3mm / US 2.5 (or size to obtain gauge) 60cm / 24” or 80cm / 32” fixed circular needles with a smooth join (some of my faves are ChiaoGoo Red or Addi Turbo); interchangeable circulars are not recommended for this project, because the wraps for the drop stitches might snag on the join’s groove.

Thanks so much to Leawesome for test-knitting the shawl version!
