This dickie top is a fantastic hybrid between an accessory and a garment, featuring a striking wavy pattern and a folded turtle neck. It is the perfect in-between project as it is not as involved as knitting a sweater but is just as effective in the outcome. With lots of techniques to learn, Valerie Ng uses a unique Soumak stitch in this design and gives two length options for the back piece – a regular version the same length as the front, or a cropped version.

Deep Sea Dickie uses Lore skeins for the main body and Lore minis for the weaving pattern, held double throughout. This honest woollen-spun yarn is made from 100% Kent lambswool that is sourced and produced in England. It blooms beautifully after washing making it perfect for this colourwork project.

The Almanac Series III
The Deep Sea Dickie is part of The Almanac III Series which is an ongoing collection celebrating each month of the year with a Yarn of the Month. It is based on the original farmer’s Almanac, a nature-inspired guide to the seasons. In our first two Almanacs, we looked to land with our theme of herbalism. Then to the skies, with our theme of astronomy. Now we look to the seas.

Our third Almanac Series is inspired by the oceans to acknowledge the importance of maintaining a balanced and thriving ocean ecosystem. The moodiness of the deep ocean, the chill of polar seas, the patterns and rhythm of the winter swells, and the great migrations of sea birds were some of the inspirations behind this Almanac Series.

We invite you to feel inspired by the high seas and explore this theme with us.
