Dumbo octopuses live in the deep open ocean down to depths of at least 13,100 feet (4000 m) and perhaps much deeper, making this group the deepest living of all known octopuses.

This Dumbo is knitted in one piece with just a little sewing around the siphon. The arms are knitted separately and then joined into a round and the rest of the body is knitted in the round, with short rows and a little intarsia for the suckers. It includes a number of techniques and involves knitting in the round on double point needles, but an advanced intermediate knitter should be able to tackle this pattern.

The sample is knitted with 38g MC Knit Picks Chroma Fingering (396 yds(362 m) / 100g) , and 13g CC Knit Picks Hawthorne (357 yds(326 m) /100g). Gauge is not important at all, as long as you use a needle size to give a tight weave, so that the stuffing does not show through. Gauge on the sample is 28 sts and 36 rows/4” (10 cm). A larger gauge will give a larger finished size and use more yarn.
