Deep Shadow Socks
Knitworthy 9 Our newest collection of accessory patterns, perfect to gift. Knitworthy 9 includes six patterns spanning a wide range of techniques and styles.
This pattern will be released for individual purchase in December 2025 until then it is only available as part of Knitworthy 9.
Basic top-down socks featuring an innovative short-row heel that’s simple to knit and fits beautifully! Whether you want to knit fine-gauge dress socks for your tallest friend, or sturdy slippers for a toddler, this multi-gauge and extensively sized pattern has you covered.
The heel combines a deeper than usual short row heel with traditional gusset shaping, for a comfortable fit around the heel – even for high insteps! The beginner friendly heel is easy to work with minimal counting, and the accompanying video tutorial will walk you through each step.
This pattern includes multiple gauges, so that you can use the gauge you get with your chosen yarn. Before casting on your socks I recommend knitting a swatch of stocking stitch in the round. Socks need to be knit in a dense, firm fabric so that they don’t wear out too quickly. Refer to the table in the pattern for suggested needle sizes and a gauge range to aim for with standard yarn weights, note that
these needle sizes are smaller than the usual sizes suggested for non sock-specific yarns.
Yarn
Fingering to DK/ worsted weight yarn, in one or more colours.
Exact yardage will depend on size, gauge and yarn used.
Needles
Dpns or circulars for your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round.
This pattern can be used for any method of knitting small circumferences in the round.
Gauge
Pattern includes directions for 8 gauges of 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7, and 6 sts per inch / 2.5cm. This pattern includes multiple gauges, so that you can use the gauge you get with your chosen yarn. Before casting on your socks I recommend knitting a swatch of st st in the round. Further details are included in the pattern.
