There is a lot of heart that went into the concept of Deflora Fingerless Mittens. These mittens were designed for a co-worker who had to undergo surgery for a malignant growth on her hand. I wanted to knit her a pair of mittens to protect her hand while her wound heals.

The flower motif in this pattern draws inspiration from the summer phlox, also known as Laura, which is the recipient’s first name. As this variety is commonly in shades of purple, the contrasting color in my sample is in a similar color. This pattern is so named as her last name is Deflora. I couldn’t have come up with a more appropriate name for this pattern, which beautifully captures the essence of this design while paying tribute to the muse.
