The Pythian Games, one of the four Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece, were held in Delphi every 4 years, 2 years after the Olympiads.

These games honored Apollo and the winner was awarded a laurel wreath (the Olympic Games honored Zeus with an olive wreath as the prize for the winner).

The fans in the shawl signify rays of sunshine. The ancient Greeks believed Apollo to be the god of sun & light.

The chain-3 loops represent the many athletes competing equally in the various events.

The lower border of “laurel tips” represents the laurel wreath given to the winner.

I like to incorporate interesting stitch combinations and concepts in my patterns. Instead of calling out all the combined stitches in each place it occurs, I give them a name to make it easier to recognize the grouping. Each are carefully explained in the special stitches box on each page they occur.
