About
Derryrush, a townland in County Galway, Ireland near Rosmuck is my Grandmother’s hometown. She was born on a farm in Derryrush in the early 1900s and her first language was Gaelic—which was widely spoken there at that time.

The Derryrush Shawl is named for this small area that brought forth a mighty woman. The area is both rugged and beautiful which is what inspired the texture in this shawl. A little bit of feminine lace with some more rugged garter. The combination is reminiscent of my Grandma Kate and her ability to handle whatever she needed to but still have a soft smile for a child.

This crescent-shaped shawl—with both written and charted directions—is easy enough for an adventurous beginner knitter but engaging enough for an advanced one. Filled with lace, eyelets, and a healthy dose of garter. This timeless design is very wearable either around the shoulders traditionally or worn around the neck like a scarf. I hope it adds some softness to your day so that you can get things done with grace, strength, and love.
