The Year of Hats is back, this time featuring our latest yarn in the Germantown line, Germantown DK! The Year of DK Hats will feature 12 free patterns using our favorite knitting techniques.

September’s design is Despina by Kerry Bullock-Ozkan. The Despina Hat features a fun-to-knit slipped stitch pattern that creates a diamond motif reminiscent of stained glass windows. This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up, with both written and charted instructions. Top it off with a pom pom and a KW leather tag for the perfect fall accessory!

Buy a kit from our site or ask for it at your LYS!

Worthy of Note
The Despina Hat is worked in the round from the bottom up. The Diamond pattern may be worked from the charts or written instructions. Length may be added by beginning the Diamond pattern on Round 17 and working an additional half repeat of the pattern.

Slip all stitches purlwise with yarn in back. Take care not to work floats too tightly; it may be helpful to spread your stitches out on the needle when working slipped stitches.

On Round 11 of the Crown, you will return the final stitch of the round to the left needle to begin Round 12. When working the crown decreases, switch to DPNs when the circumference becomes too small to work comfortably on circulars.
