I have seen some Supernatural fanart where Devil’s Traps are sewn onto skirts. I’ve always thought ‘I wonder if I could do this with a beanie?’ Well I did, and it’s brilliant! After sever trial and errors, the charts you find here are up to date.

The two color stranding technique used is simple enough for knitters that are just beginning colorwork while still being engaging enough for an experienced knitter. Instructions are included for both a tight fitting skull cap as well as a slouchy fitting beanie. The colorwork portion covers the crown of the hat creating an optical illusion, a 2 dimensional shape on a 3 dimensional garment. Using a worsted weight yarn for this hat creates a thick and warm fabric that will still fold to fit easily in a coat pocket.

This hat is also extra special because this hat has been admired by the beanie wearing moose, Jared Padalecki himself! It happened at PittCon 2017 and involves the most magical of photo ops! I could tell the whole story, but you’re here for a knitting pattern.
