This pattern produces a diagonal dishcloth that is quite similar to the traditional Grandmother’s Favorite pattern. However, it does not have the lace edges produced by yarn overs. Instead, this pattern uses knit twice in one stitch increases to add stitches without the holes produced by yarn overs.

Since the pattern is a diagonal one, gauge is not overly important. Also, needle size can be varied to produce larger or smaller dishcloths.

The most important part of this pattern is that a cotton yarn should be used. Most economy yarns do not have the absorption properties that a cotton yarn, such as Lily Sugar’n Cream, provides.
