We all need a bit of peace and bliss in our hectic lives, especially this time of year!

This is the perfect project for special yarn and time to yourself to work the soothing and rhythmic pattern.

I wanted to make a project that was calming and de-stressing to work, with the right balance of simplicity and interest to keep me motivated.

I envisioned a warm cosy cowl with a rather stiff fabric, like a protective yarny shield against the winter wind and cold.

The pattern was first published in Simply Crochet Issue 63. I was very lucky to receive the softest yarn I’ve ever used, Debbie Bliss Iris which is a single ply blend of 95% wool and 5% cashmere. So luxurious!

You can use any aran or worsted weight yarn and a 5mm (US H/8) crochet hook for this gorgeous single layer cowl to keep you cosy from your chin to your chest.

This design is based on an interlocking diamond shell stitch which creates a warm fabric. Use three colours for contrast, or choose one colour for a simple stunning effect.

The top and bottom bobble edging gives an opulent studded appearance and is finished with optional mini tassels.
