This project is a good way to practice for the Masterpiece Cable projects that come next in the

Mostly Classic Cables“ book

It has much in common with them. A scarf version of the pattern is included. Since scarves and cowls are very simple shapes, all concentration may be spent on getting comfortable with the cable. This design is not one of the Inside Out Aran series. In this one, the knit stitches that form the cable are on the main bed and purl stitches that form the background are on the ribber. This pattern is for bulky machines with ribbers.

YARN, GAUGE, SIZE AND MACHINE
Use a soft #5 yarn at or near the maximum stitch size on the bulky machine. Yarn with a high wool content is highly recommended because the resilience of the wool fibers helps the stitches to adjust after having been weighted during the knitting process and causes the moss stitch to match the cabled areas better. In the highly textured combination of patterns, this will get an unusual gauge of about 4 stitches/4.5 rows/inch. It’s not necessary to match gauge perfectly for this pattern. Collar is 6.5” wide and may be made 19.5, 21 or 24.5” in circumference. Adjust the stitch dials so that the ribber and main bed stitches match in size. On my Brother, 10/10 worked fine. A scarf with the same design may be made 30, 33.5, 37, 40.5, 44, 47.5, 51, 53.5, 57, 60.5” long.
