This generously sized design begins with a central spine of undulating lace with side wings that are created by picking up and knitting into the side edges of the spine and working towards the bottom edge.  This shawl is more ‘bat-like’ than triangular and although the pattern begins on straight needles and is worked in rows I recommend using a number of circular needles to accommodate the width of the project transferring to a shorter needle as the shawl narrows. Delicate picot detailing features on both cast on and cast off edges of the spine as well as the beginning of each row on both ‘wings’ which eliminates the need to pick up knit large numbers of stitches to finish the edges. Instructions are given in a combination of charted and written form.
