My husband is ‘getting on’ a bit and often complains that his neck is cold. So I decided to knit him a new cardi with a shawl collar. It’s only ‘one size’ as I’ve only knitted it just for him, but it’s 40”. I wanted a quick knit, but not entirely plain, so I used a very easy diamond pattern that is knit and purl on the right side and just purl on the wrong side. The pattern is very easy, you just need to take a bit of care in the first half dozen rows until the pattern is established in the raglan shaping. The shawl collar is shaped using short rows. I haven’t specified any particular buttonhole style as we all have a preferred style. So you can make big buttonholes if you want to use big buttons. There are three mock seam stitches aside each sleeve and these become part of the body stitches. There are also a couple of decrease and increase stitches under the arms to keep continuity of the pattern when knitting the body. I called it Diamond Geezer ‘cause that’s just what my husband is… a Diamond Geezer.
