Knit gauge in stockinette stitch is 9 stitches and 14 rows per inch on size 1 US needles. The soles are knit in stockinette stitch, producing a tight enough gauge that no purl stitches are felt underfoot, as with some heavier weight, looser knit cotton yarns. (of course, sole area could be reversed, if desired)

I wear clogs most of the time since, sadly, I have square feet.
