Diamond Mosaic Scarf
Unlike most knit scarves, this scarf is knit lengthwise using extra-long circular needles. It begins with casting on 388 stitches (using the sample yarn) with the long-tail cast-on method. This can be a bit tricky, so see my “Notes” section for hints on how to come up with the correct length of your cast-on tail.
The main body of the scarf is created using a very simple two-color mosaic stitch pattern. The edging is just a simple garter stitch. You begin by doing the first garter stitch border, then work the mosaic portion, then the final lengthwise garter stitch border. Stitches are picked up at each end to complete the border. Fringe can be added if desired.
To make this scarf you will have to be comfortable with alternating two colors of yarn to create the mosaic pattern. Complete directions are included for how to do this technique. This is not a complicated pattern and, in fact, it’s a good introduction to two color knitting if you haven’t tried that yet.

This scarf pattern could be easily modified for different yarn weights, swatch and find a fabric density you like and cast on a multiple of 6+4 (2 stitches for the edge, 6 stitches for the mosaic pattern, 2 more edge stitches). You’re also able to work more repeats of the mosaic pattern to achieve the desired scarf width. Note: Different yarn weights and gauge will require different yarn requirements. Plan your project accordingly!
