Inspired by Marvel Cinematic Universe: these arm-warmers are an homage to Thor’s vambraces (forearm-guards); as seen in The Avengers (2012), which takes place after Loki’s apparent death at the end of the earlier film Thor (2011). The carvings (which are a stylised depiction of Loki’s horned helmet) were added to Thor’s originally plain vambraces as a silent tribute to his lost brother. The name of this design was taken from a line in The Avengers dialogue where Thor reunites with his brother and angrily confronts him about the deception: “I thought you dead!” Loki’s sarcastic response: “Did you mourn?”

These arm-warmers are fully lined and the motif is duplicate-stitched, no two-colour knitting necessary. Uses two colours of 4ply fingering weight merino or wool blend yarn, approx 260 yards of each (two balls of each colour of Patons Dreamtime 4ply were purchased for the sample, in 2959 silver and 2958 charcoal).

You will need a 2mm circular needle on a 9-inch cable, or a longer cable for magic loop, or DPNs in the same size (choose your preferred method). Some stitch markers (over-the-needle and locking types) and a blunt (but not too thick) tapestry needle will also be required.

Sized to fit most teens to adults. 24cm long; 12cm wide at top; 10.5cm wide at wrist (laid flat). Fabric has a small amount of stretch; top fits up to 16 inch circumference forearm. Notes are given to help you adjust the width.
