The Syndicate Hats collection is a tribute to my knitting group, Strikkesyndikatet (The Knitting Syndicate). This one is for me :)

On a “retreat” (AKA weekend in a cottage) with my knitting group, The Knitting Syndicate, I cast on for this hat. I finished it the same weekend, of course – chatting and knitting makes for great hat knitting! It inspired a whole collection of hats, one for each of the members of my knitting group.

The hat is worked from the brim up, starting with a provisional cast on and a folded brim. No purl stitches in this hat whatsoever! Half of the hat is done in a structured stitch pattern, giving a bit of interest while knitting. The rest of the hat is lovely stockinette stitch, to make the semi solid hand dyed yarn show off its best features.

Yarn:
Rainbow Heirloom Sweater (100% Merino), 229 meters / 250 yards per 115g, 1 skein. Colorway: “New Asphalt”.

Needles:
4 mm / US 6 circulars, 40 cm / 16 inches or longer for working magic loop. Another circular needle for finishing brim (can be a size smaller than the main needle size).
optional: double pointed needles for crown shaping.

Other:
7 markers, one of them looking different for beginning of round.
Waste yarn for provisional cast on.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge:
Sample uses gauge of 18 sts & 26 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch, after blocking.

Size: Women’s size M, to fit a head circumference of 56 cm. Actual finished size: 51 cm.
