This is a pattern for a large (about 10 inches square/25 cm square) potholder. Gauge is not critical, because the potholder will be finished by shrinking it in hot water (in washing machine is best)

Pattern includes two large images, on page 3. If desired, do not print these color images (to save money on inks/or if you don’t have a color printer)- Page 1 includes a thumbnail image.

This Pattern is available in a charted version ONLY.

It is shown made with Sugar n Cream 100% cotton worsted, but many other cotton worsted would also work well (there is a list of suggested yarns in pattern).

Worsted weight cotton yarns are available in many colors, and many different size skeins. Even the smallest skeins of cotton yarn, (about 2 oz/55g) has more than enough yardage to make potholder as designed.

This pattern can also be worked in Worsted Wool, and fulled (aka felted). Different wools full at different rates, and a wool potholder might not be square, but more rectangular. Yardage requirements for wool are about the same. (weight will vary, as many wools are lighter for the same yardage than cottons.

This pattern is not suitable for synthetic fibers, many will melt at the high heat a potholder is subjected to, and could cause burns.
