This is the fifth design in my Dip-Dyed series - a cosmetic bag, or crochet hook pouch! This bag is worked using a simple single crochet stitch worked into the back loop to create this fun, ribbed pattern.

I don’t often carry around a purse, and am not really a make up person, but I do enjoy using my bag for crochet hooks, pencil and scissors.

Materials:

  • 95 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Ecru and Rose Pink
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers
  • Optional, Stitch Marker
  • Optional for Lining: Fabric, Zipper, Sewing Machine &/or Needle & Thread (I used a 9” x 6” pre-made bag that I stuck inside & then sewed in place)

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Bernat’s Handicrafter, Paintbox Cotton, Rico Creative Cotton

I recommend cotton yarn because it’s more durable, and this bag will most likely see a lot of use, and being pulled and pushed around in a larger bag/purse.

Weaving in ends of a tough yarn, like cotton yarn, can be hard on the fingers. Sore thumbs and frustration can be a thing of the past by simply using jewelry pliers to carefully help pull the tapestry needle through the work.

Time Spent:
Just over an Hour.

Measurements:
8.75” Wide by 6.5” Tall (measured just to the right of the last stitch, which is on the higher end)

Gauge:
15 SC in the BLO = 4”

Abbreviations:

  • HDC - Half Double Crochet
  • BLO - Back Loop Only
  • SC - Single Crochet
