This elegant shawl is sure to draw the eyes of admirers. Although appearing terribly complicated, it is surprisingly simple to knit. It incorporates two undemanding lace patterns, both of which are repeated over just a few stitches. It’s easy to memorize, but why bother when every row is written out for you!

Both patterns also make beautiful DIAMOND shapes, with the frill on the edges breaking up the geometry and adding just a touch of movement. The first pattern creates diamonds in grids, vertical on one side and diagonal on the other. The second pattern nestles DIAMONDS WITHIN DIAMONDS. Giving them all a little more sparkle by adding some beads seems like a natural next step, if not mandatory!!

Colorwork also gives this shawl a different dimension, thanks to being worked from the bottom up, a less common construction method. This gives your color work the appearance of being DIPPED, as if the piece had been DIPPED in different colors from the bottom up. It’s a really beautiful look that sets the piece apart.

This also makes it an excellent stash buster! Using up smaller amounts of yarns at the bottom and larger amounts of yarns towards the top, you can’t go wrong mixing and matching.

This is an engaging shawl to knit, without demanding all of your mental attention. New stitches are added slowly, allowing you to grow accustomed to them. When one pattern becomes monotonous, you get to switch to a new one. The longer the rows get, the more the whole thing settles in.

Have FUN creating this piece. Mix in textures, color combinations, & break out of the box – it’s your work of art.

HAPPY KNITTING MY FANTASTIC FIBER FRIENDS!
