Inspiration: Dissipation, the action or the process of spreading thin or scatter and gradually vanishing. This is my perspective on how the world is now a days. Sad I know, but I personally feel we have broken the world to its core. We have over fished our seas, over polluted our environment and have micro plastics just about everywhere imaginable. I read just this week that if the earths temperature rises just 0.4 degrees higher we have reached the point of no return for our planet. The lace section of this cardigan is meant to represent the ice that is melting in the arctic. I do hope that we can all do our part to still have a green and thriving planet for future generations to come. For this all proceeds from this pattern will be donated to charitable foundations that are centered around saving the planet. Thank you for your support & hoping this pattern will inspire us all to do our best for the planet.

Feel free to experiment and substitute with the yarn of your choosing of equal weight. Silk blends are recommended to get the proper drape and ease of the garment. When choosing your yarn, please keep in mind the pattern was designed for very “drapey” yarn, which has a tendency to stretch long and thin after blocking.

Gauge: Using 3.50 mm needle 4x4” (10x10cm)
32 sts and 30 rows stockinette unblocked
26 sts and 30 rows stockinette blocked

Materials: heavy lace/ light fingering yarn, knitting needles, 20 stitch markers (2 clipping), scrap/waste yarn, darning needle, blocking mat and pins (optional blocking wires & crochet hook in 3.5mm for stretchy BO)

Skills: knit, purl, yarn over, knitting through back loop, increase (kfb, m1L, m1R), decrease (ssk, k2tog, p2tog, p2togtbl), provisional cast on, german short rows, magic loop if working sleeves with long circular needles, reading lace charts, stretch bind off, wet blocking.

Construction: The ‘Dissipation Cardigan’ is based on a the premise of knitting on an axis. The shoulder is knitted flat then your start knitting in the round for the sleeve in stockinette. Once the whole back, both shoulders and sleeve sections are completed, stitches are then picked up from the bottom and the lace is then worked back and forth for the length of the piece. Sizing for this is a bit different as it is based on the distance from bicep to bicep and sleeve width. Customization for the snugness of the sleeve opening (near the wrist) is given and 3 lengths for the cardigan is also given.
