Toe Up Socks with your choice of heel and toe techniques. Knit to fit using your measurements and gauge.

I’ll never forget the first time I put on a pair of hand-knit socks. Oh! The soft stitches, the warm wool, the perfect, cozy fit! There is nothing like wearing a pair of socks made just for your feet. With commercial socks available in every price range and made from so many different fibers, many people think knitting socks is weird (to say the least). But for me, making my own socks is the only way to have a custom fit.

Knitting socks is fun, too. Once you start, you can easily get addicted to knitting these simple tubes with curved pockets to encase your heels and toes. But even if we knit socks for the fun of it, we still want to make sure that the finished items fit the way we intend them to. This takes a little bit of forethought and may not be completely intuitive.

One of the trickiest things about sock fit is understanding how gauge and stretch work together when you knit with different pattern stitches. In this universal pattern, you can try all different combinations and knit up a drawer full of custom-fit socks.
