You can make this hat and cowl set with just one skein of Brooks Farm Solo Silk.

The cowl is knit back and forth like a scarf and then seamed at the center back. This pattern was tested by Jeanine Bowen using Blue Moon Fiber Arts Sock That Rock – Medium weight yarn (not shown). She ended up using size 3 needles so it is definitely very important that you check your gauge.

PDF includes pattern for BOTH hat and cowl.

The hat uses about 220 yds and the cowl uses about 185 yds.

PLEASE NOTE: on the cowl charts, the WS row symbols are the opposite of what the RS rows are. for example, purl the purls and knit the knits EXCEPT for the first 3 sts on the WS - those are always KNIT. Also, on either side, when you turn the work to knit the first 3 sts after having slipped them in the previous row, pull the yarn tight so that the 3 sts end up forming the i-cord edge.
