The Do the Twist Headband is a sweet and simple project, perfect for beginners looking to expand their knitting skills! Use up that random skein of worsted or aran weight in your stash to make this warm and stylish accessory.

This headband is knit in the round to create a tube with a large cabled twist in the middle. The CO and BO edges are essentially the back “seam” of the headband:
If using the Longtail CO, the headband will be invisibly seamed using the Mattress Stitch. (Beginner)
If using the Provisional CO, the headband will be invisibly seamed by grafting together the live sts of the CO and BO edges using the Kitchener Stitch. (Advanced)

SIZES:
Circumference: 20 (22, 24)” / 51 (56, 61) cm final circumference.
Width: 3” / 7.5 cm all sizes.
To guarantee the best fit, measure the wearer’s head circumference and follow instructions for the size closest to that measurement. The headband is designed to be worn at an angle, placing the twist in the middle of the forehead so the back of the headband sits at the base of the head where it meets the neck, covering the ears on both sides.
Sample size: 22” on an adult female.

GAUGE:
21 sts x 24 rounds = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette in the round after blocking.
Take time to save time: Swatch to guarantee correct gauge.

YARN:
1 ball of “Cheese” by Amimono Spin (148 yards / 135 meters, 50 g / 1.7 oz, 65% Brushed Baby Alpaca, 19% Nylon, 16% Wool) or any worsted or aran weight yarn that obtains gauge.
Estimated Total Yardage/Meters: 110 (120, 130) yds / 101 (110, 119) m

NEEDLES/HOOKS:
US size #7 (4.5 mm) dpns or long circular needles for knitting in the round.
Optional: US size G crochet hook (4 mm) for Provisional Cast On, or similar size to knitting needles, and spare set of knitting needles for grafting section.
Use any size needle or hook necessary to obtain gauge.

OTHER MATERIALS: Stitch marker, darning needle, cable needle or spare dpn, scrap yarn (for Provisional Cast On), scissors, blocking mats and pins
