Dochas Scarf
The Dóchas Scarf is a simple garter stitch design with a delicate little detail at the edge that makes it truly special. Although it’s knitted “straight up”, the increases and decreases in the pattern create a subtle triangular shape – so much fun to knit! Many knitters visiting the Purl &Jane Studio assume the edging is added afterward, but it’s actually done as you knit.
This pattern was originally one of eight designs I created to launch at Yarndale 2017, alongside the Mohair Tweed yarn, which debuted that same year. The yarn was spun in Donegal, inspiring me to name each pattern after an Irish word. Dóchas (pronounced DOE-hass) means ‘hope’ in Irish, making it a fitting name for a piece that brings warmth and comfort.
Since I first launched it, I’ve seen this scarf knitted in so many wonderful wools, each bringing its own unique beauty to the design.
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat in one piece, it is asymmetrical which means you increase, but do not decrease, to get the triangle shape.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, eyelet row, increasing, cast off.

Three 50g balls of Mohair Tweed.
70% merino wool & 30% mohair, 110m/120yds per 50g
