This hat was designed for my glorious mother. It’s warm & cozy & a blast to knit & feels like a big hug & it just reminds me of all the best qualities of my mom! A simple knit/purl pattern creates a fun texture that allows for the hat to be worn a few different ways (purl V forward or to the side) & create a totally different look. At a rather loose gauge in DK weight yarn it knits up remarkably quickly, & the end result is so satisfying (especially when you add a nice big pom pom!). It is actually knit with the wrong side facing to make the small cable crosses & decreasing easier, so when you finish you get a nice bit of fun revealing the right side!

SIZING
– One size; to fit adult small/medium head
– Finished circumference: 18.5”
– Finished height (brim to tip of crown): 8”
– NOTE: all measurements are taken after blocking

FIBER
– Approximately 115 yards DK weight yarn for the hat; if you wish to add a pom pom (which I HIGHLY recommend - this hat was made for it!) you will need the rest of your 100g skein to make a really fluffy one – Sample 1 (rust/charcoal): Stitch Together Studio Stitch Dreamy DK, colorway Shadow Moon (1 skein); superwash merino
– Sample 2 (blue/purple): Madelinetosh DK Twist, colorway Easy (1 skein); merino wool

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
– 1 US size 9 circular ndl, 16” cord (or longer if using magic loop method)
– 1 set US size 9 DPNs (optional; only needed if not using the magic loop method)
– Tapestry needle
– Measuring tape
– Blocking materials
– Pom pom maker (optional, but again - highly recommended!)

GAUGE
16 sts & 23 rnds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch in the rnd; approximately 4 sts/1 inch

SKILLS & NOTES
If you are confused or stuck, there are a lot of great tutorials online for all of these techniques!
– NOTE: This hat is actually knit on the WS as I found the little cable crosses much easier to do with knit stitches rather than purl stitches. Once finished, you’ll turn the hat inside out to reveal the finished product! (Or, of course, you can keep the WS as the RS if you like it better!)
– Reading charted instructions (optional; you can choose written or charted): Remember that since you are knitting in the rnd you will read each chart from right to left
