My new pattern Dora’s Buttons Socks.
As a little girl (1970s) I used to visit my Great Aunt Dora’s house with my mum. She lived alone after she was widowed in World War Two, and was an eccentric soul, living very frugally and with a ‘reuse’ purpose to life. Her house gave me the experience of real life ‘haunted house’ imagery. An over grown garden that had become a jungle, rickety doors, Dusty rooms, broken floor boards, boxes of packed up memories of her life, old furnture and boxes of trinkets. How lucky was I to explore this place before the age of 7? Included in those trinkets were boxes and boxes of buttons. The buttons on these socks were collected by her, and are over 50 years old. The socks are a tribute to these rich memories.

A stockinette stitch pattern with a small panel of cabling to create either 2 or 3 small diamonds, sitting on the outside ankle, with tiny buttons sewn in for effect.
