Construction: Named for Dorrance Street, the starting point of Providence, Rhode Island’s Pride parade, this easy lightweight baby hat is designed as an essentially blank canvas to play with stripes or to work up a simple, solid hat. Find your favorite cotton or cotton-blend yarn that will be soft and light for a new baby, and knit a gift to welcome a new human into the world.

Instructions are provided for solid, two-color, and rainbow stripe versions.

Skills needed: knitting in the round, k2tog decreases, knitting an i-cord

Yarn:
Light (weight: 3) cotton or cotton blend yarn. All hats shown use approximately 90 yards (38 grams) of Lionbrand’s Coboo (50% cotton, 50% rayon from bamboo).
Solid version: 90 yards (38 grams) of yarn, shown in grass green and ice blue.
Two color stripes: 55 yards (24 grams) of main color (shown in steel blue) and 45 yards (20 grams) of contrasting color (shown in silver)
Rainbow stripes: 40 yards (21 grams) of color A, 10 yards (5 grams) each of colors B-G. Shown using silver (color A), magenta (color B), orange (color C), yellow (color D), grass green (color E), steel blue (color F), lilac (color G)
