A fun hat to knit and wear! Buttons up the back of the hat allow you to wear your ponytail high, low, or in between and still keep your head warm and cozy. Just undo a button wherever you want your ponytail to stick out. Also works for a “messy bun” - just undo two buttons instead of one. No need to pick up stitches for the button band; it’s knitted as part of with the pattern for a seamless one-piece knit. Makes a quick gift for someone sporty.

Difficulty: Advanced beginner
The instructions are written out row by row so you don’t have to be able to follow a cable chart to knit this hat, making it a good project for someone new to cables.

Yarn selection: The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn (gauge in stockinette: 20 sts to 4”/ 10 cm). Because the cable pattern provides visual interest, this is a great opportunity to use fun colors of solid or semi-solid yarn - or go with neutrals for a classic look.
