Annoyed by how uncomfortable it can feel to carry a bag on hot summer days, but still wanting to have my essentials with me when I’m out and about, I set about solving the problem and came up with a bag that has two separate pouches and only a thin strap across the centre, so you don’t have a bag keeping the warmth in between your body and your arm.

Use of waistcoat stitch for the pouches produces a more dense and low-stretch fabric than is usual for crochet and creates a sturdy bag that won’t sag even when it is quite full and the slipstitch on the straps serves the same purpose.

Finally I added decorative shell stitch flaps to close the pouches, a contrast trim, and an interesting floral swag to finish the project in style!

Sizes: one size, easily adjustable

Tension: 17 sts x 22 rows = 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” measured over waistcoat st using 5 mm hook.

Working method: Pouches are made base first (worked flat) and then sides (worked in the round). Flaps, Handles, Buttons, Swag and Bar are crocheted and attached.

a. Pouch circumference: 26 cm/10.25”
b. Pouch length (from underarm): 17.5 cm/7”
