This design has the same basic shape as my original Merry Go Round pattern but it is achieved in a very differnt way. It also has a longer backwaist length hangs longer on the wearer. It is made in segments, each of which begins at the hem with full fisherman’s rib and gradually changes stitches. The stitch changes produce the circular shape. Special trims complete the look.

The design is for standard gauge double bed machines. This includes Japanese style machines that are usually 4.5mm needle spacing and European machines that are usually 5 mm needle spacing or close. Either a main bed/ribber combo or a true double bed works fine. The machine must be able to make half fisherman’s rib in a knit 1, purl 1 setup. Almost all machines will do this but it may be called “English Rib” or “Tuck Rib” in some manuals. The book includes a chart showing settings for many machines.

Any soft #1 weight yarn may be used. 2 of the samples were made with Red Heart “It’s a Wrap” yarn which creates automatic graduations that are very dramatic. All sizes except the newborn version will require 5 balls of It’s a Wrap to get the color graduations consistent throughout the project. 16 sizes are included.

double bed machines includes Passaps, Superbas, Orions and the like that usually originally came with 2 beds attached. Most were made in Europe Machines that have attachable ribbers will work just as well. This includes old Knittax type machines that only have every other needle on the ribber. However it is essential that the machine be able to produce half fisherman’s rib.
