Downstate Dress
The ultimate sweater dress is here! Dress it up, dress it down…whatever you decide, the Downstate Dress is the perfect staple dress for the winter. As comfortable as your favorite sweatshirt, this dress is designed to keep you looking and feeling great all season!
Materials
- DK weight yarn or any yarn with which you can match gauge Sample used Blame the Knots Bodacious Boucle DK in Don’t Cry, Shopgirl (240 yds / 100 g) and Blame the Knots No Duh DK in Fiddlesticks (246 yds / 100 g)
- US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles (or needle size required to meet gauge)
- US 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles (or needle two sizes smaller than main body needle) for ribbing
- Needles in the same size of your preference for small circumference knitting
- Several stitch markers, one distinct to mark BOR
- Stitch holders, spare cables, or scrap yarn for placing stitches on hold
- Darning needle
Gauge
16 stitches and 24 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette knit in the round, blocked on US 7 / 4.5 mm needles
Sizing
1, 2 (3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8) (9, 10, 11) with a finished bust circumference of 36, 40 (44, 48, 52) (56, 60, 64) (68, 72, 76)” / 90, 100 (110, 120, 130) (140, 150, 160) (170, 180, 190) cm
Meant to be worn with approximately 8”/ 20 cm of positive ease at the fullest part of the bust, 2” / 5 cm of negative ease at the natural waist, and 2” / 5 cm of positive ease at the fullest part of the hip.
Customizations can easily be made to add or subtract ease throughout the dress for the perfect fit!
Yardage
Main color yarn will require 951, 1008 (1082, 1261, 1331) (1452, 1580, 1710) (1838, 1960, 2048) yds / 870, 922 (989, 1153, 1217) (1328, 1445, 1564) (1681, 1792, 1873) m
Each additional inch of body length will require 19, 21 (24, 26, 29) (31, 33, 36) (38, 40, 43) yds / 17, 19 (22, 24, 27) (28, 30, 33) (35, 37, 39) m
Contrast color yarn will require 154, 173 (189, 207, 224) (240, 258, 277) (293, 310, 327) yds / 141, 158 (173, 189, 205) (219, 236, 253) (268, 283, 299) m
Construction
Pattern is constructed top-down, beginning with the back panel. Stitches are picked up to add the front left and front right shoulders. Front shoulders are joined to create the neckline and the rest of the front panel is worked. Front and back panels are then joined and worked in rounds to finish the body before adding the waistband and skirt. Neckband and sleeves are added at the end.
