Dragon on a shelf
Description
This is an overlay mosaic crochet pattern, showing a dragon sitting on a shelf. It can be used as a component of other crochet patterns and blankets. The dragon is small, most likely a baby one, as it fits on the shelf! It’s sitting very slightly back from the edge, as it’s rather shy.
Overview
This is an overlay mosaic crochet pattern, worked row by row. Each row is worked in one colour. At the end of each row the yarn is cut, and the next row is worked on the front side of the work again with the other colour. This pattern does not include any slanted or angled stitches, just standard stitches.
Pattern files included
- written instructions (both UK and US terms)
- a chart to view on screen (or to use with apps like Knit Companion) Separate charts and written patterns are available for both right-handed and left-handed use.
Size
This block is 40 stitches wide and has 31 rows. In DK yarn it will be about 21cm wide and 17cm high (about 8” wide and 7” high). If you choose to add a border, this will make it a bit bigger.
Yarn
You can use any yarn and hook size you like for this pattern, just be aware that the resulting size may be different, and it may use a different amount of yarn. I recommend using two colours with a good contrast, so that the pattern shows up clearly.
Gauge
I haven’t included gauge for this pattern, as it will most likely be used as a component of a larger piece. Any hook size appropriate for the yarn you are using should be fine.
Example usage
Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK
1 x 100g ball (skein) of Colour A (background) - uses about 19g, about 57 metres (62 yards)
1 x 100g ball (skein) of Colour B (pattern) - uses about 15g, about 43 metres (47 yards)
This pattern does not include a border, as it will most likely be used as part of a larger item. If you prefer to create it as a single item, you could leave the ends as a fringe, sew them in, or add an envelope border.
This is an original pattern by Heather Cornish. You may not copy, reproduce, sell, or share any part of it, whether for profit or not. This includes, but is not limited to, the written pattern, charts, photos and images. No translations or video tutorials are allowed. You may sell items made using this pattern, but please credit me as the pattern designer where this is possible.
Thank you for choosing my pattern, and happy crocheting!
