Dragon Scale Shawl

Finished Shawl: Width (wingspan): 66” Length (top to tip): 28”
Texture, movement, and timeless warmth come together in this triangular knit shawl. Featuring the Embossed Trellis Stitch, this design uses slipped stitches to create a beautifully raised, woven texture that looks intricate while remaining relaxing and rhythmic to knit.
When worked in a variegated yarn, the overlapping texture is reminiscent of dragon scales, giving the shawl its name. Right and left lifted increases to create the spine of the shawl, allowing the trellis pattern to flow cleanly as the fabric grows.
The sample shawl was knit in JoAnn’s Big Twist Vortex
(RIP), a worsted weight 4 yarn that highlights stitch definition and adds rich visual depth. Cascade 220 Wave or Spincycle yarns would also be excellent substitutions, each bringing their own unique color play to the trellis texture.
Perfect for layering on cool days or cozy nights, this shawl is equal parts statement piece and everyday comfort.
