The dragon on this scarf is based on a Japanese design. The scarf is worked in double-knit so it is reversible.

The yarns I used are of very different weight, you might find it better to use two colors of the same yarn instead. I used an entire skein of Purl Soho’s Cattail Silk (600 yds) in Flower Field Gray. (Okay, there are a couple of yards left.) I used about 620 yds of Red Fish Dyeworks Spun Silk 20/2 in PB13A (a dark blue-gray) because I used it for both borders.

With lace-weight yarn and US 1 (2.25mm) needles this scarf is 12.5 inches wide. Going to a heavier yarn or bigger needles will make an even wider scarf. There is a 2-stitch garter border up each side that could be skipped but that won’t make the scarf appreciably narrower.

I suggest 10 stitch markers to help you keep track of where you are in each row.

The pattern includes charts - stranded and double-knit styles - for the dragon and background. There are also written directions for the double-knit patterns. It’s a big pattern (23 pages total, 8 charts, etc). It took me what felt like forever to knit the sample. Maybe you knit faster.
