⚔️ A dragon tail blanket that turns into a backpack

This pattern was inspired by my son and his love of dragons. ♥ It includes both the dragon tail blanket and a little dragon buddy to snuggle.

The blanket can be made from toddler/preschool size all the way up to adult by adding extra rows and spikes. And the best part? It turns into a backpack with a pouch for the dragon buddy!

✨ What makes it work

• Blanket plus buddy. A dragon tail blanket and a stuffed dragon friend.
• Backpack mode. Straps and a pouch to carry the buddy.
• Grows with them. Add rows and spikes to go from preschool to adult.
• Quick on a big hook. The blanket uses a 10mm hook.

✂️ What you’ll need

• Blanket yarn: Hometown USA, Lion Brand, approx. 631 yds for preschool size. Colors shown: Green Bay (6 skeins for preschool; add about one skein per extra 8” of length), Tampa Spice, Monterey Lime, Syracuse Orange (2 skeins)
• Dragon yarn: Vanna’s Choice, Lion Brand, approx. 125 yds, in Fern, Cranberry, Radiant Lime, Mustard and Radiant Orange, plus small amounts of black and white
• Hooks: P (10mm) for the blanket · G (4.5mm) and F (4.0mm) for the dragon buddy
• Tools: Fiberfill · Sewing needle · Scissors · Stitch Marker
• To finish like the sample: 24” of canvas binding for the blanket straps

• Size: Blanket is 43” long and 44” wide at the top (preschool), and can be made larger
• Skill level: Blanket Easy · Dragon buddy Easy/Intermediate
• Gauge: Blanket, 7.5 sts and 4 rows = 4” x 4” with the P hook · Buddy, 18 sts and 17 rows = 4” x 4” with the G hook · gauge help
