Dragonslayer Afghan

August 2014
Worsted (9 wpi) ?
12 stitches and 7 rows = 4 inches
in double crochet (US)
6.0 mm (J)
3500 - 3570 yards (3200 - 3264 m)
approximately 48 x 64 inches

A mile-a-minute afghan for those of us who shudder at the thought of a long starting chain…this one begins with “ch 9” and utilizes a new “string of crocodile scales’ stitch pattern as the foundation for the strips. It works up quickly and produces a supple, solid masculine fabric and a slightly over-sized afghan.

This pattern is included in a book with four other afghan patterns, they all use American crochet terminology and the book is available in both print and digital formats.

Mile-a-Minute motif, Row 1, should read:

Rnd 1: With RS facing, attach Color B, Blueberry Heather, with dc in marked sp, 2 dc in same sp, 3 dc in each of next 71 ch-4 sp, ch 1, 6 dc in ch-3 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in each of next 71 tr-sp, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp, (3 dc, ch 1) in first sp, sl st in first dc to join (444 dc, 4 ch).

Rnd 2: “16 times” should be “17 times” and the stitch count should be (456 sts and 6 ch-1 sps)
