"Dream on" shawl
About the Shawl
This shawl features my original 2#2 stitch and a has a symmetrical, heart‑shaped construction. One of the advantages of this shape is its flexibility — you can easily adjust the size to suit your preference. The stitch count grows quickly, so you can bind off whenever the wingspan feels right for you.
Yarn Used (Sample Version)
Main yarn:
- Sesia Talent — 200 g cake of merino (700 m) with long, gentle colour transitions.
Held together with “fluff”
- 1 cake Sesia Oliver (laceweight alpaca blend) — 425 m
- When Oliver ran out, approx. 20 g of Sesia Vivienne (mohair/silk blend) ~175 m
Total fluff used: approx. 600 m (425 m + 175 m)
I chose to double‑strand the merino with soft, airy fibres to enhance the colour transitions and add a delicate halo.
Finished size using the amounts above
Wingspan:185 cm (73 in)
Depth: 75 cm (30 in)
Using the Full Cake:
If you prefer to use the entire 700 m of merino & 700 m of fluff, testers achieved:
- Wingspan: 214 cm (84 in)
- Depth: 84 cm (33 in)
Bind‑Off
The shawl is finished with a knotted i‑cord bind‑off designed to complement the 2#2 stitch. Full instructions are included in the pattern.
