Dreamfetti is a short, boxy V-neck vest worked in stranded colorwork with a playful confetti motif. The airy fabric and generous positive ease make it light, relaxed and easy to layer, while the repeating 6-stitch colorwork pattern leaves plenty of room to play with color.
My sample is knitted in 11 different colors, but Dreamfetti works just as well with fewer. I recommend using at least 3 colors. With three colors, for example, you can repeat them in a simple A – B – C – A – B – C sequence, or change the order from one pattern repeat to the next. The chart is meant more as a stage for your colors than as a fixed color sequence.
The sample is worked in Dreamies, a featherlight Superkid Mohair yarn. It is knitted on slightly smaller needles than I would normally use for this yarn so that the fabric remains airy and soft while the stranded colorwork stays clear and compact.
Size
The pattern is written in one size only and is designed with generous positive ease.
Finished measurements:

  • Width: 62 cm / 24.4 in
  • Total length: 51 cm / 20.1 in
  • Armhole depth: 25 cm / 9.8 in
  • Back neck width: 24 cm / 9.4 in
  • Edgings: approx. 3 cm / 1.2 in If you would like to make the vest longer, simply add complete pattern repeats before dividing for the armholes. One repeat adds approximately 6 cm / 2.4 in in length and requires about 22 g of additional yarn.

Yarn amounts and color options
The sample uses 11 colors and approximately 250 g total, which equals about 5 full 50 g skeins in total yardage.
You do not need 11 full skeins for the sample color arrangement; many colors are used only in partial amounts. Dreamfetti can also be worked with 3, 5, 7, or any other number of colors.
If you would like to work the lower ribbing and all edgings in the same color, allow approximately 30 g for that color.

For each additional full pattern repeat added below the armholes, allow approximately 22 g extra yarn.
